French automaker Bugatti has unveiled what is now the most expensive new car in the world – La Voiture Noire (The Black Car). The unveiling was done to mark the automaker’s 110th Anniversary at the Geneva International Motor Show in Switzerland.
The jet sports car has six tailpipes, a 16-cylinder engine and a horse-power of 1,500 which Bugatti says its already been sold cost $18.9 Million or Ksh.1.89 Billion.
At its debut Tuesday during the Geneva International Motor Show in Switzerland, Bugatti chief executive Stephan Winkelmann said the car he deemed both “elegant and puristic” was inspired by an earlier model, the Bugatti Atlantic, of which only four were made.
Bugatti was founded in 1909 by the Italian-born industrial designer Ettore Bugatti. Today the Brand is Under the German Car-Maker Volkswagen who acquired it in 1998. Since its acquisition, Bugatti has had two successful designs, the Bugatti Veyron and the recent Bugatti Chiron.
All their vehicles are built to order, in the true Bugatti motto of the company’s founder Ettore Bugatti: “If it is comparable, it is no longer Bugatti.” The process takes about 12 to 18 months to complete.
The Voitore Noire was designed by Ettore Bugatti’s eldest son Jean Bugatti as homage to the Bugatti 57SC Atlantic type that had an iconic all black variant and went missing during the World War.
Since its a one-off car, meaning there is only one of its kind, The 1.89 Billion Bugatti La Voiture Noire will have the exact inverse value curve of a regular car: it’ll start to appreciate rather than depreciate the moment it’s delivered, and after 20 or so years, it’s likely to be an even more desired and exceptional art / status / wealth piece.
The car was bought by the first person who was approached by Bugatti even though they did not disclose his identity.
