Facebook is introducing new branding to its products and services as it tries to distinguish the parent company from it’s familiar apps.
Among those that will carry the new FACEBOOK brand is messaging platform WhatsApp and Instagram.
In a statement Facebook said, “We wanted the brand to connect thoughtfully with the world and the people in it. The dynamic colour system does this by taking on the colour of its environment.”
The brand will appear in different colours depending with the product. For example, it will appear in pink while WhatsApp will appear in green.
According to the announcement, Facebook (the parent company) will be adding the new logo to the various services it owns, like WhatsApp and Instagram, in the form of a “From FACEBOOK” tag at the bottom of various pages to constantly remind users that the corporate monolith owns them.
The Move is seen as an attempt to fend of criticism from lawmakers that the company doesn’t tell users of it’s other Apps the owners and that it should be broken.
“This brand change is a way to better communicate our ownership structure to the people and businesses who use our services to connect, share, build community and grow their audiences”, Facebook Chief Marketing Officer said.
The different logos seem to say that Facebook the company is not entirely defined by Facebook the social network — they just happen to share the same name and controlling interests.
Twitter CEO Mocks Facebook’s Rebranding.
It seems that the war between Facebook and Twitter is far from over. In a tweet, CEO Jack Dorsey mocked the uninspiring design.
TWITTER— jack (@jack) November 5, 2019
This is not the first time Dorsey is taking a swipe at Facebook. Just recently, twitter suspended all paid political advertisements in a move viewed as a response to Facebook’s policy.
Dorsey was not the only person to mock the new logo, as the internet made fun of it terming the font as uninspiring, boring and sinisterly corporate.
Whether the move to re-brand will help it from its many and never ending troubles, is a thing to wait and see.
